How To Insert, Delete A Cell, Row, Column In Excel Sheet

In this article, I will tell you how to insert/delete a cell, row, or column in an excel worksheet. It will also tell you how to remove the cell content without moving the cell position.

1. How To Open The Excel Insert Cell Dialog Window.

  1. There are 2 methods to open the excel Insert dialog window.
  2. The first method is to right-click a cell and then click the Insert… menu item in the popup menu list.
  3. The second method is to select an excel cell and then click the Home tab ( on excel’s top menu bar ) —> Insert —> Insert Cells… menu item in the Cells group.

2. How To Insert A Cell, Row, or Column In Excel Sheet.

  2. Right-click cell B2, then click the Insert… menu item in the popup menu list.
  3. It will pop up the Insert dialog.
  4. If you select the radio button Shift cells right and click the OK button, then it will insert a cell in the data cells and shift the cells to the right like below.
  5. If you select the radio button Shift cells down and click the OK button, then it will insert a cell in the data cells and shift the cells down like below.

  6. If you select the radio button Entire row and click the OK button, then it will insert a row in the data cells and shift the second row down like below.

  7. If you select the radio button Entire column and click the OK button, then it will insert a column in the data cells and shift the second column to right like below.

3. How To Delete Cells, Rows, or Columns In Excel.

  1. Select multiple cells, right-click them and click the Delete… menu item in the popup menu list to open the Delete dialog window.
  2. If you select the Shift cells left or the Shift cells up radio button, it will delete the selected cells and move the cells after or below the current cells accordingly.
  3. If you select the Entire row or the Entire column radio button, it will delete the row or column of the selected cells.

4. How To Clear Cell Content Without Moving The Cell’s Row Or Column.

  1. Right-click the selected cells, then click the Clear Contents menu item in the popup menu list.
  2. Then it will clear the selected cell’s content only and not move the cells after or below the selected cells.
